For whatever reason, you really wanted to be a shipping merchant, but you had no money... Luckily you found a really shady loan with high interest to buy yourself a boat. Now, to stay ahead of your debts, buy and sell items in a memory game to get ahead!

Reflections for Game Prototyping 3:

• Is it representative of the core loop you wanted?

I intended to create an interesting combination of a simplified trading game, boating controller, and memory game where the main game loop was finding an item that was being requested and searching out an island selling it, which I feel I represented well.

• Did it give you an answer to the question you posed, and if so, what is the answer?
  • Remember the answer can be negative (i.e.: "this idea is not fun") and the prototype can still be a success!

It did, my two questions (can I make a fun but tricky boating controller and is a simple trading game still fun) were solidly answered and I got good feedback in class and out of it on wether people agreed with me (they did as a rule).

• How would you change it, if at all?

I think the only thing I would change for a prototype would be a more accurate representation of the game state that is more than just a debugging console, that was the main complaint about how well my game loop was demonstrated.

• Where would you take the idea next?

I feel like this game is intentionally relatively simple so there are only a few things I would do to complete it in my eyes. First, I would update the graphics so the world felt more immersive and complete. Second, I would finish the UI as I mentioned. Third, I would create the debt part, in which you have to trade to stay ahead of your debts. Lastly, I would add npcs to make the world more fun to explore and maybe upgrades that they could sell.
